The style is amazing, the intro really grabs you with its visuals alone. The gameplay is easy to pick up, but I think the upgrades are a neat idea. They're like charm system in Hollow Knight where they can radically alter playstyle, it's really cool. Though I wouldn't say it's perfect. Half the time it feels like you get nothing thanks to the weapon you have on you. When it does work though, man does it work. I think having the power-ups be more generalised and less niche would help out a lot.
Really simple and fun game, great job you guys!

Stepford responds:

I'm glad you liked it! And yeah, I do agree with you about the upgrades feeling shit when you don't get ones that fit your build/current weapon. It was in the name of 'inspiring' players to try multiple weapons per run, but it doesn't make the sting hurt any less!

Thanks for the kind feedback! <3

Prolly your best game yet, very nice concept! Overall a lot more refined than your previous games. I never paid much attention to Karlson, so I can't make any comparisons.
The basics for a game are there, I think the only things missing are some final touch ups. Things like sound effects, screen transitions, an animation for firing the gun those small things would all make the game come alive more. Maybe also having a dead zone so the player automatically respawns when falling to their death, instead of just falling forever and waiting for the player to restart manually. Another thing I recommend improving is the crosshair/aiming graphic, I legit thought it was just some dirt on my screen and that the game had no crosshair.
But yea, fun game.

After reading your comment, I just thought of adding post-processing and using another script, with the grapple hook swing animation.

thanks

I like your attempt at a main menu! Though I'm a bit confused why you can restart the game on the main menu lol. I believe all the different functions are different scenes? You're better off using different canvases and turning the right ones on and off. Much easier.

As for the game itself, it was alright. The mouse feels really sensitive and that was something disorienting. Would have helped if the mini map showed which way you're looking. The levels were also pretty tricky, I couldn't get past level 2 & 3(3 was already unlocked when I went back to the menu). Which sounds sad. Maybe I need to git gud, tho a less steep difficulty would be nice. Instead of "jump over the wall until it works"

I like the direction you're going though, at least

MST-Creator responds:

All I can say is that, in the level in which you had to jump over the wall, It is not that "try until it works" as I have beaten the level countless times without needing to "jump over the wall until it works".

I know that the mouse feels very sensitive, I tried to set it to other numbers, but none of them seemed to work well.

As for level 3 unlocking by itself, I don't know why that happened.

The only level that I wanted to be hard was the fourth level.

Not bad for a first game. The only thing I can say is instead of having the camera always look directly at the player, have them look a bit above the player. The bottom half of the screen is wasted now because there's nothing important there, giving the player far less time to react to what's actually ahead.

MST-Creator responds:

I got many comments saying that, but I never really fixed the game as I wasn't planning on updating it.

What's here isn't much of an improvement. The title screen is barebones with no music and the most generic font you can find. Then the actual game is blinding with loads of bloom and effects. It contrasts badly and neither is pleasing to look at. The gameplay feels sluggish, with the playing field being too small for such big entities. And the player resetting back to the center is disorienting.
This isn't even an original game with any sort of interesting mechanic or twist, so I can't even score you on that. It's literally Pong, except worse to look at and less fun to play.

I didn't enjoy being so negative. I know game dev can be tricky when you just start out, so I hope that you can take these things to heart and improve on your next game. Make sure to hit preview before submitting and check if things work.

MST-Creator responds:

yeaaaaaaaaaa... I kinda did it in a hurry and was gonna look at the size in the morning, and now I open the computer and see that it's huge.

Wait, I am such an idiot... I just saw that the players are out of camera view. lol

I'm glad this game is starting to get the recognition it deserves, this game looks fucking awesome. Especially for one dude in 9 days? Sickkkk. Plz keep making games, you have serious talent
Id personally rly like a download version of this game. I have a hard time running it in browser on my crap laptop lol

gustavvonperiwinkle responds:

I'll upload a desktop version some time today and put a link to it in the description! webGL removes a couple of the audio effects unfortunately!

The game's concept is pretty unique, almost like an RPG metroidvania. It's cool! My only complaint is that the controls and gameplay don't feel great. I think this game could be easily expanded on, that'd be sick! Very well presentation, very unique experience!

xinelu responds:

I focus on making it work and than visuals... maybe my priorities were wrong haha.

But thank you for playing it :) it was a risk to try a different RPG for once

The game's concept is nice, but I think ultimately the game's controls kill it. I expected the egg to go rolling at the press of a key, I think that would have been more fun instead of the egg going an inch forward. That you have to keep jacking the key to move makes me not wanna play again because it just kills my arm before I can even finish the first stage. Turning requires you to play keyboard DDR just so you can turn properly. Making the distance traveled when pressing a key and making the turn rotations bigger would help this game a lot, as well as my arm

Very well done though for only one person, especially since this is a 3D game made in 9 days. I hope you keep going

boniikawaiidesu responds:

based on your feedback i asked permission to polish the controls now i removed some camera bugs and added camera controls using the mouse so it's more confortable to play also you can leave the key pressed

This game's pretty cool! I really like the mechanics, the puzzles really do well to pull out the most it can out of the game! Well done, especially for just one person!

(One glitch I did notice is that the old crocodile seems to give you an egg when you pass through him. It made it so you could just walk right through the long corridor of crocs because the regular ones kept stealing your egg, while the old ones kept giving you a new one)

kr0tyara responds:

That's not a glitch. Look closer: the crocodile who gives you the egg has this egg in his mouth.

i woke up with like maybe 4 hours of sleep and navigated discord in my zombie-like state. as soon as i saw sunnyside got released i fuckin jumped out of bed just to play this game bc this is the game ive been THE most hyped about playing and finally playing it feels like pulling out excalibur from its stone-y pedestal. this game's awesome, the art, the gameplay, the music, the vibe. it's perfect. watching this game's development has been amazing and playing it now is even more amazing

tl;dr amogus trash can

Stepford responds:

I'm glad it was worth the wait! <3
