Hoi hoi, it's been a while since my last news update! I'm not dead, as you can tell!

I'm sorry that I've been pretty quiet. I've just been busy with life, it's been quite hectic and still is, but I'll try and get through this tough patch!


In the meantime, I've decided to open up commissions again! I closed them 1-2 years ago and kept telling myself to remake my sheet and update the prices...well, now I finally have.

hoi hoi! this is may be quite late but I feel like it's finally time to write le postmortem on Maple's Maid Service.


So yeah, Maple's Maid Service. I've got a lot of (sappy) feelings about it, but it's difficult to put them into words. Regardless, I will try to lay out my feelings.

Maple's Maid Service started development around mid September. I was kind of depressed and dissatisfied with myself at the time, feeling like a failure of a game developer for being unable to get any games out and the games that I did finish being very mediocre. MMS was born from those negative emotions, a positive and wholesome game that could raise your spirits, where your only goal was to do complete simple chores and being able to feel good about yourself for doing so.


Maple's Maid Service is my vent game, my heart and soul turned into something playable. It was the game that I needed to make at that time. It is my baby and extremely important to my heart. That is why I'm so grateful and touched at the reception it has gotten. It has given me validation as a game designer and developer, that the path I've chosen hasn't been a mistake after all.


So, to everyone that has played the game: thank you. The team as well; @bleak-creep, thank you for being so incredibly hardworking and passionate and for helping to keep me motivated. @p-pamda, for always being so supportive and working hard even as life got into the way. the musicians, @ConnorGrail, @Dieswyx, @Dry, @Levc, @Quarl, for offering to help, giving this game a chance and making it come to life. You've all not only helped out the townsfolk of Maple's Maid Service, but me as well. You've all helped me come out of a rut and I will always be grateful.


To all the people that left honest reviews, thank you as well for sharing your thoughts and pointing out shortcomings. I've updated the game multiple times since release, the current version(as of writing) being v1.0.9. The game is quite different from the initial release version and I'd like to think that I've addressed most of the more notorious and common complaints. Mostly looking at the fishing lol. I am not planning on updating the game any further, I think it is time for Maple to rest and stand on her own. I can't keep polishing and coddling her forever!


There are some things that I sadly cannot address. The most egregious one being medals unlocks being inconsistent. I've tried to address this multiple times, but I just can't figure it out. It is a lame excuse, so hopefully as compensation I will happily unlock medals for people that notify when a medal hasn't been unlocked for them(well maybe for the fish one it'd be nice if u had proof lol). Saving was a suggestion I saw a few times, but unfortunately Unity save files and NG web games do not play nice together. I will have to sit down and really try and get it working for a game, but MMS is not that game. Mobile support was something I planned, but it sadly did not work out.


At the end of the day, I'm happy and satisfied with the current state of Maple's Maid Service. I finally have something that I can be proud of. MMS is one of the nominees for Best of January 2023 and the results have not been published yet as of writing. Regardless of the results, if Maple will make it into the Top 5 or even the Top 30, I'm happy. I'm satisfied. I've gotten all that I wanted. I have a game I can be proud of and it's gotten such a positive reception that it sometimes feels a bit unreal. I know it ain't the next best thing since sliced bread or The Bible 2, but it really does mean so much to have people enjoy something I put my heart into after feeling like a failure for so long.


So, what are my plans for the future? Is Maple's Maid Service 2 coming out? Maple's War Service? Maple's Kart Service? Maple's Depressed-Stressed-Retail Service? Is Maple's Maid Service coming to Nintendo Switch? No, probably none of those lol. I'm currently in the middle of my entrance exam for university which is for a game design course. I'll be focusing on that for now, whether I'll polish it and release it for the public remains to be seen. Other than that, I might have a pretty big game concept in mind...but honestly I'll just see what I end up doing. I'm in no rush to dive into the next game project, I'm gonna chill for a bit...and work on my entrance exam. That one is kinda important. A little. Maybe do some art on the side, I got a new drawing tablet at the start of the year and am finally getting more used to it and

hoi hoi, 2022 is about to end or may have already ended depending on how slow i write this but WHATEVER imma just write down the 2022 experience and whatever else comes to mind. i got nothing better to do lmao


Chapter 1:

PETI TALKS ABOUT THE GENERAL GIST OF HOW 2022 WENT DOWN


it's been a whole year + 6 months since i've made my ng account. on one hand, it feels like time has flown but on the other it feels like i've been on the site for longer. that doesn't make sense, but i hope you can understand that feeling and just responded with "oh ye, i get that feeling"


how was 2022: the year, though? it's easy to say "it was bad/ok/mixed", but i want to be positive and say that i think it was a good year and that i've done the best that i could have. i said that last year i wanted to release more games and that i wanted to get more involved with the community. the making more games part i've failed miserably at, releasing only a single one throughout the entire year. i really tried to release more, but it never worked out for whatever reason.


on the other hand however, i did fulfill on my wish to get more involved with the community! ive spend most of the year collaborating and doing small work for other projects. it's small, but those are still things that i'm happy with. it's better than just doing things on your lonesome. i think i fulfilled that desire of wanting to connect with people more, though i defo want to be more active in 2023. i'm still a bit awkward, ngl, and don't have much to really talk about. maybe i should like....actually talk on all those discord servers i'm in... i also got to do some commission work this year, which was pretty wild. they're closed atm, but only because i haven't redesigned my sheet yet lol


my personal life has also improved a lot. early 2022 i was a hair away of going completely broke, i was a complete NEET and was not getting accepted anywhere, it was a stressful and depressing period. i luckily managed to get a job, albeit a kinda crappy one, but it's still something and i'm luckily not broke anymore! thanks to my not-broke-anymore status, i upgraded my laptop which was on its deathbed, literally today i got a drawing tablet which was bigger than i expected tbh, and i also signed up for university. i'll be studying game design, because i enjoy that a lot more than full-time programming or art lol

GAMES

Interdimensional Square Off was made for Pixel Day in about 2 weeks and i think it shows lol, but idc. it felt good to make this game and at the end of the day i'm glad that i made it. i know that for a lot of people that the game is pretty frustrating and the game looks like crap, but i'm happy with it regardless. i was also super stoked to get to work with @Dieswyx and become friends with him, he's awesome and i'll shill for him any day of the week


I DIDN'T MAKE THESE GAMES LMFAO, I just did the game design and game testing for these. i'm super grateful to @just-a-ng-dummy for letting me onboard and live out my game design dreams... nah but fr this actually did help me realize that i wanna do design instead of programming. DevDum is also just a really awesome dude in general and i'm glad that i got to befriend him.

I made this with @bleak-creep and @p-pamda (as well as contributions from a lot of musicians), i was hoping to finish this before halloween but uhhhh oh hey it's not halloween or even autumn anymore oops, but anyway go play it when it's done lmfao, i'm actually pouring my heart and soul into this game and am really proud of it so far. it's about 95% done, so i'm hoping for a january release...hopefully early january, i dont rly wanna get buried by all the amazing pixel days that are gonna come out sob........

This year was absolutely amazing for my music career. I'm super grateful that you've all just taken a few minutes out of your lives to listen to the songs that i've put my entire being into. i really could not have made it this far without you guys support, so please, don't think i take your time and comments and favs for granted. behind each number, i see an individual who i am eternally grateful for. thank you. okie ive been pretty sarcastic, but i think looking back 2022 was a good year overall. i'm pleased!

what's gonna be in the Peti store during 2023? i dunno.....probably more drawings of anime girls, AT LEAST a single game!!!! hopefully a few more though...... i kinda want to join a jam as an artist sometime........and of course a lot of good music from me, Peti, certified Newgrounds musician.

Today, June 16th, marks the day that I created my Newgrounds account. it's been a whole year since that day, huh. time flies when you're having fun!


but really, i defo do not regret spending that year's worth of time on this site. i honestly didn't really know what i expected out of newgrounds when i first joined, i think i just wanted to expand my horizons and be part of a community. well, i defo got that! i've got to meet so many lovely, talented and funny people over the past year. i love the newgrounds community a lot. i love the shared passion for creativity and art, but most of all i love how chill and grounded the community generally is. it doesn't feel like you gotta please some kinda algorithm or that you gotta put on a mask, y'know? all the people i've gotten the chance to interact with have been great and i'm super happy to be part of the ng community.


thanks as well for 320+ fans. i try not to look at my numbers too much, so its always a lil weird seeing the number of fans seemingly jump. i could have sworn it was much lower just the other day........ but really, thank you all so much. it really does mean a lot. i struggle a lot with having confidence in my own work, i imagine a lot of people can relate lol, imposter syndrome genuinely sucks. seeing so many people enjoy my work regardless, reading such nice and encouraging comments it really does mean a lot. its really heartwarming. thank you all so much for the support! ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿ’ž


as for what my plans are for the future, well, uh, stay on newgrounds lololo. ive recently gotten a new laptop, so im finally able to code again after months of not properly being able to. ive joined a jam with some other newgrounders, we're still brainstorming some ideas for what we wanna make. other than that, i'm also working on my own game. i wish i could show it off here, but it's too early. if i do show stuff, it'll probably be on twitter(@petibunbutt i post newgrounds stufffff). i must say, im having a lot of fun coding again! it feels good to get back into it, i hope to yield results soon! before my death, at the very least.


that's all i rly gotta say tbh. newgrounds, based. i hope to remain a part of the community for longer, because it's filled with such wonderful people. it's always so fun seeing what everyone is up to, i'll be there to cheer everyone on!!

Hiiiii, it's been a while since I made another news post! I rly wanted to replace my old one lol, so here we are!!!

Recently, just-a-ng-dummy released their new game KrudShot Cafe!! I got to provide gameplay design and it was fun brainstorming ideas together with DevDum! KrudShot got a very good reception and I'm really happy for DevDum!! Thanks to everyone who played the game!! If you haven't already, do give it a shot!


I might get back into game development next week-ish for a Game Jam. Burnout coupled with irl issues have not been good, but I'm itching to try my hand at a game again. I dunno if the Jam will actually result in anything, but it might be fun!!


Thanks for all the support and putting up with my lil shenanigans! Recently managed to reach 270 fans here and 100 followers on Twitter, as I'm writing this. Those are both very insane numbers to me lol, it's heartwarming having the support of so many people. Thank you! I'll keep doing my best!

With development of a new game having wrapped up i took a small break from social media this evening to do other stuff. I rly was not prepared for the massive heart attack i got when i checked newgrounds again


I dont rly feel comfortable bragging about achievements, nor care too much about getting da BEEG numbers. Im comfortable where i am right now, but most importantly im so so thankful. Im so overjoyed that i get to be part of such an amazing community that's so talented and so chill and so inviting


After pixel day, i genuinely feel like im part of this community now. I genuinely feel like i can wear that frickin NG emoji around, as dumb as that sounds LMFAO!!!!! But i feel like i can now comfortably say "im part of newgrounds!!" and BELIEVE it myself. i know im not the best developer or artist out there, but i dont mind. Im comfortable being more in the back of the photo because im IN the photo!!! That makes me happier than any amount of exposure or numbers.


Tbh, im still pretty shy about interacting with people. But im starting to feel more courageous. That feeling of seeing myself as a pest to others is subsiding. Im happy, overjoyed even. Im hoping to be able to collab more with other people, and be there for whatever event is happening or just simply when new stuff has been made. I still have some stuff i gotta check out (sorryyy), but what ive been able to see has been unreal!! straight up too powerful


Maybe this all seems kinda silly, but im just rly happy and rly thankful to be here. My life would be a lot more miserable and lonely otherwise.

ayoooo, happy new year my dudes!!! 2022 is here yeeeeaaa!!!

is rly been 6 months since i made my newgrounds account. i still remember that summer day just sittin on top of a metal football goal making my newgrounds account, is crazy far fast the time since then has passed!!


i've really enjoyed my time here on newgrounds a lot, seeing and meeting all these cool and talented people!! i dunno, is just COOL to see all this amazing talent yknow? you dont see that shiz on twitter or reddit, newgrounds is rly something different. is gucci


my wishes for 2022 is to get more involved with the community. im honestly rly awkward and struggle to rly connect with other people, das something i rly wanna change this year cuz just being part of this community is always just such a good time. the egg jam and the secret santa, those things are defo highlights of the year for me. i get happy just lookin back on those things. legit, at the premier today i was just having a GOOD time yknow? i was depressed af before, but just seeing how talented everyone is and getting to be a part of that community, it made me so happy!!


oh and im hoping to actually maybe make games. i only made 2 these six months wHOOPSIE POOPSIE. im working on a rly big project rn but like maybe i should work on some other smaller stuff in the meantime as well instead of just tinkering by myself in the backroom... IF YOU NEED A PROGRAMMER IM HERE...OR ART I GUESS???

Hi everyone!

November is here and I hope everyone is doing well!! It's been another month, though October has been pretty eventful on my side I still want to share what I managed to get done this month! So as doc ock once said: Ladies and gentlemen, fasten your seat belts.

PLAYER

The character has received some minor graphical updates, most notably he finally has his delivery bag! Now he can finally do his job instead of...barging into random places blowing zombies up for no reason.

The Super Dash's brake phase now has the character actually using his foot to stop himself. A minor graphical change, but hopefully it looks nice!


DUNGEONS

The dungeons' rooms will now have various designs and furniture. This is mostly to add flavor and perhaps act as sort of landmarks. Furniture can be destroyed using your rocket launcher (i mean...you're blowing the place up...), with some items letting out some spare change. I'll defo be adding more layouts in the future, this is only a start and to get them in there.

Another thing added to the dungeons are rare health pizza's! Since these aren't your customer's order you can just eat these and recover some health, letting you keep going if you perhaps find yourself in a pitch! Does it make sense for the player character to eat potentially old/spoiled food that's just laying on the ground? No, it doesn't. But this is pizza, so it's worth it.


CONFIGURATIONS

On the world map, you're able to go to the pizzeria. Here you can play around with some stuff, viewing your records and achievements as well as adjusting audio and graphical settings.


Tbh, this was meant as just a quick side thing (bc i got kinda tired of drawing a bunch of furniture) done in maybe a day or two? BOY WAS I WRONG........ Getting the various menus right ate up the most time this month. Unity's UI menu components are not fun to wrestle with. A lot of hoops had to be jumped through, but it ended up working out in the end! It's still not completely done yet (still need to draw a background for example), but the hardest parts are taken care of at least.


END STATEMENT

Hopefully it was fun seeing the progress made! It doesn't feel like a lot, I've always been hesitant to show progress as I'd rather show stuff off when it actually looks good (which just ends up being the final game). But I think keeping these logs will help alleviate that perfectionist(?) attitude a bit.


By the way! I've decided to revive my old Twitter account! Twitter is kinda hell, but I think I'm in a better mindset now to use it again. It'd be nice to get more involved with the community and meet new peeps! My Twitter handle is @petibunbutt, so if you wanna be mutuals then let's do it!! I'll be posting art and maybe some smaller development updates over there.

Hi everyone!

It's been a month since my last update/game debut post so I wanted to give a quick update! bc im not rly posting anything else soRRY I'VE BEEN KINDA BUSY WORKING ON DA GAME HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH ANyway imma go and show off my progress with HOT PEPPERONI OUTBREAK so far so gather around cuz its my turn for show and tell.

PLAYER

I finally got around to giving the player an actual good design instead of a super generic one. I'm happy with this redesign, the dorky-cool aura fits the kinda vibe I want to go for with the game. He still lacks pizza bags though, I keep telling myself to draw them and add them but i kinda keep forgetting whoops...i'll get around to it...some day...

The Reversal has been changed into a regular Dash. Before, if you performed the move, the player would face the opposite direction at the end of the dash if you let go of the arrow keys. However, it was a bit hard to pull off since letting go of the controls is kinda unnatural and you'd usually just end up not changing direction at all which would screw you over if you were counting on it.

NOW you won't change direction at all if you Dash. Instead, you'll perform a Reversal when you hold down the Shift/Strafe button while dashing. This is a lot more natural and easier to pull off, so you'll be able to more easily counter a horde of enemies if you find yourself surrounded.

The Super Dash(run rly fast for a bit zoom zoom, kills enemies on contact) has been slightly altered, not only visually but also mechanically by adding a brake phase to it. Before, you'd instantly stop when it was over which was pretty disorienting. Now after the meter has been depleted, the player will temporarily slide to stop themselves. You can't control yourself during this brake period and even tho it's short it's easy to slide into an enemy and take damage if ur not careful


OVERWORLD

Besides the dungeons, there is also a lil overworld/stage select screen! I wanted to give the idea of the player driving towards their delivery destination by having the stage all the way in the back. I'm happy with the results, it gives off a chill vibe.


These are the stages I'm AIMING to have in the game:

- Pizzeria: Here you view your records, change the game settings and other stuff.

- 3 different stages. They'll all be dungeons, but have graphical differences and slight gimmicks to set them apart.

- Endless Mode. A dungeon that's endless, where the goal is to just reach as far as you can before you die.

Currently getting the Endless Dungeon finished is my main goal. I'll try to get the 3 actual dungeons in there, but only if I have fuel to add them in. I think after I'm done with the Endless Dungeon, adding the other 3 won't be too hard.


ENEMIES

I got around to giving the zombies some proper graphics since my initial debut(?) post, where they were literally just green versions of the player lol. I only have the basic generic as hell zombie rn, but I'll add some more later to give some variety. Different looking zombies will also have slightly different stats, such as being faster or being more powerful.


They've also been given the ability to lunge/hurl themselves towards the player. This can rly catch you off-guard if you're too slow with dealing with them or can't quickly get past them. This was mainly added due to an issue with the pathfinding where they couldn't easily get to you if you hugged the corner or walls. Now they just say fuck it and hurl themselves towards you regardless. It's a small change, but they ended up really handing me my own ass the first few times.


END STATEMENT

Hopefully this was interesting to read, what did you think? I'm really not used to writing a dev log but it's fun regardless. Hopefully it was fun for you too. I'll start to number these from now one. I think I'm making good progress, but another part of me also thinks I should be working faster lol. I'm working on the game almost daily and I still feel good doing so! However, I try not to push myself and only work when I can and want to. When I do work, I try to just work on whatever I feel like doing at that time. I think I've always been kind of chaotic in my development like that, so I can't really promise what I'll have done by the next update. There is a priority system with these tasks though, so I am aware as to what I need to get done sooner than other things. It's a pretty big project and might seem a bit daunting, but I know I can finish this even if it takes a while. At my current rate, I'm expecting the game to be done early next year (DON'T TAKE MY WORD ON DAT THO IM RLY BAD AT PREDICTING HOW LONG PROJECTS TAKE LOOOOOOL).


As for my personal life, I've recently had a job interview with a big fucking company! And I mean BIG! I don't have the job yet, but they did tell me that I had shown a lot of strong qualities so far. I still have a test and another interview or two to get through, it's exciting and also scary. I'm trying to not get myself too hyped up, it'll be hard to get through all these and failing is easy. But if I ended up getting it, it'd legit be a huge opportunity. So...I'm going to do my best!! Ofc, I'll still do my best on the game as well. even though a job will defo have impact on development, i'll hang in there!
